There is a long history of rock music providing entertainment for large numbers of people, and now a wide range of people as well, from young rebelling teens to old rock fans. Starting to make a great appearance in the 1950's rock music has come a long way from the likes of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley to the vast amount of bands you see today. The genre started to become very popular in the 1960's when the likes of The Beatles and the Rolling Stones were a great influence on music in England for many years. As rock music became more popular it opened the way for the more alternative folksingers such as Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens. As the 60's carried on the bands became greatly influenced by the drug culture and that in turn affected the way people thought about them and then there was the massive increase in use of these drugs creating the psychedelic era through the 60's. This shows how much of an affect music can have on people as well as providing entertainment.
The thing about rock music is the people that are in the band you know have a genuine passion for music as it can take years for them to learn the instruments they play. As well as knowing how to play their instruments the people that are in a band also have to know how to involve the audience as much as they can and create an atmosphere throughout the whole venue no matter the size. In earlier years, as the audiences for rock music were mainly young people, the bands would involve current issues of young people into their music a lot. Now bands can use the likes of pyrotechnics and lighting to create an atmosphere for the audience, but they still often use current issues to relate to the people watching.
Although well known bands can use the technology to relate to the crowd, bands that are just starting out need to know how to connect with the crowd but in much smaller venues and with out the technology such as local pubs, clubs and even specialised buildings. These kinds of venues can create a very intimate atmosphere between the band and the people watching.
The instruments used in rock music are as varied as the venues the bands can play at there are the main instruments that are usually the base for any band: vocals, lead guitar, bass guitar and drums. However, some bands that want a different sound to most other bands use a selection of instruments such as trumpet, saxophone and harmonica. These instruments give the music a more light hearted fun sound making it more easy listening to a wider range of people than the heavy rock music.
Rock music now appeals to a much wider audience than it once did and because of the variation that has stemmed from the genre such as folk, punk and the more modern indie it's safe to say everyone would be able to find some form of rock music they liked.
